Drake Dunsmore was raised in Lenexa, Kansas and played football for Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. During his senior year, Drake Dunsmore had 56 receptions for 841 yards and 9 touchdowns. Drake Dunsmore had a career total 105 receptions and 19 touchdowns. Drake Dunsmore received many honors including Rivals.com All-Region, ranked 21st-best tight end nationally by ESPN, Two-time first-team all-state, Two-time team MVP, 2006 first-team All-Sun and was named to 810 Sports Radio all-star team.

In 2007, Drake Dunsmore joined Northwestern Wildcats football team. Drake Dunsmore was one of two Northwestern Wildcats true freshmen to play. Drake Dunsmore was named to the Sporting News’ Freshman All-Big Ten team. The 6’3” 235 lbs superback had a pair of catches for 70 yards against duke. Drake Dunsmore was not able to play in the Northwestern Wildcats 2008 football season due to a knee injury that happened on the fifth day of preseason practice. Drake Dunsmore is expected to come back for the Northwestern Wildcats 2009 football season as one of the most dynamic multi-skill players in the Big Ten.
