Jeravin Matthews was born in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and played football for Canon-McMillan High School. As a running back for Canon-McMillan Jeravin Matthews averaged 5.3 yards per carry wit a total 1,014 yards, averaged 27.3 yards per return and had 19 receptions for 144 yards. Jeravin Matthews received many honors in high school including PrepStar All-East Region wide receiver, ranked 55th among all players by SuperPrep, named Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Washington Fabulous 22 All-Star, Two-time All-District honoree, Two-time All-Great Southern Conference selection and was selected to play in the North-South Washington County all-star game.

In 2008, Jeravin Matthews was the only true freshman to play for the Northwestern Wildcat football team. Jeravin Matthews played first career Northwester Wildcat football game against Ohio and returned his first career kickoff 27 yards. Jeravin Matthews was named Northwestern Wildcat Special Team Newcomer of the Year, Northwestern Wildcats special teams player of the week against the Boilers and was named Northwestern Wildcats offensive practice player of the week against Syracuse and Duke. During his first Northwestern Wildcats football season Jeravin Matthews totaled 139 kickoff return yards on six attempts. Jeravin Matthews started out as a 5’11” 175 lbs receiver and will most likely move to the running back position for the Northwestern Wildcats 2009 football season.
