Justan Vaughn was raised in Pearland, Texas and played football for Pearland High School. During his senior year at Pearland, Justan Vaughn made 72 tackles, 11 pass deflections, 2 interceptions and 4 tackles for loss. Justan Vaughn received many honors including being rated on of the nation’s top defensive backs by Rivals.com, second-team All-Greater Houston, first-team all-conference defensive tackle, Texas Magazine Super Team and was named to the 2005 preseason All-Greater Houston team.

In 2006, Justan Vaughn joined the Northwestern Wildcats football team. Justan Vaughn was named Northwestern Wildcats special teams practice player of the week against Ohio State. In 2007, Justan Vaughn played in seven Northwestern Wildcats football games as a 6’0” 190 lbs reserve corner back. Justan Vaughn made his first career interception when the Northwestern Wildcats played at Illinois. Justan Vaughn also made two solo tackles against Eastern Michigan and Iowa at Northwestern Wildcats Ryan Field. In 2008, Justan Vaughn started two games for the Northwestern Wildcats. Justan Vaughn had a season ending shoulder injury when Northwestern Wildcats played Duke. Justan Vaughn recovered and improved during the Northwestern Wildcats 2009 spring practices.
