Mike Bolden was raised in Evanston, Illinois and played football for Evanston Township High School. As a senior at Evanston Township Mike Bolden made 88 tackles, 11 interceptions, 2 sacks and 4 recovered fumbles. Mike Bolden also rushed for 1,600-plus yards, 22 rushing touchdowns, 8 receiving touchdowns and also threw for two touchdowns passes. Mike Bolden received many honors including Rivals.com All-Region, ranked 36th-best cornerback nationally by ESPN, Two-time All-Central Suburban South Conference and was 2006 preseason Chicago Tribune all-state team.

In 2007, Mike Bolden joined the Northwestern Wildcats football team. Mike Bolden was named Northwestern Wildcats defensive practice player of the week against Nevada and Purdue. Mike Bolden was also named Northwestern Wildcats special teams practice player of the week against Eastern Michigan and Illinois. In 2008, Mike Bolden played in many Northwestern Wildcats football games. The 6’1” 195 lbs recorded a solo special teams tackle at Northwestern Wildcat Ryan Field against Ohio State. Mike Bolden also made three tackles against Southern Illinois during the Northwestern Wildcats 2008 football season.
